Premiership Finalists Clash at Millennium Stadium

This season’s Premiership finalists will lock horns once again in the first major cup tie of the new year.

Champions Wasps will meet Leicester Tigers in one of the Powergen Cup semi-finals scheduled for the Millennium Stadium on March 4 in the top pairing while Wales remaining representative Llanelli Scarlets meet last year’s losing finalists Bath in the other tie which will be part of a double-header in Cardiff.

Leicester Tigers qualified for their semi-final showdown with Wasps after a 29-16 victory over Northampton on Saturday while Wasps easily saw off the challenge of a depleted Saracens side 42-8 at the Causeway Stadium the following day.

When Wasps last met Leicester in the Premiership final at Twickenham, they won by 39-14 but the Tigers have faired better in recent cup clashes between the two giants after completing a Heineken Cup double in the previous campaign.

In Wasps first home game of the season both sides played out a thrilling 29-29 draw and so the March showdown looks perfectly poised.

Both sides have a number of leading Irish players with Wasps’ Johnny O’Connor, Peter Bracken, Eoin Reddan and possibly Jeremy Staunton opposing Geordan Murphy, Leo Cullen and Shane Jennings for the Tigers.
