Padraig’s Major Hopes
As he was being confirmed as Europe’s top golfer at Valderrama
on Sunday, Padraig Harrington’s thoughts were already turning to
next season, and his quest to win yet more titles.
The Dublin golfer’s last-day charge up the leader board secured
him second place at the Volvo Masters in Spain and with it the Order Of
Merit title.
Padraig said this week that being crowned as Europe’s No. 1 ranked
second only to winning a major in his list of priorities.
He said: “I’ve won 15 tournaments worldwide and had a lucrative
career but I always said that it’s winning trophies and titles that
you remember when you’re finished playing, so to claim a prize as
big as this is something I will always remember.”
Harrington is rated as one of the best golfers never to have won a major
title but that is something the Irishman hopes to rectify in the coming
seasons.
He said: “If you look at how my career has gone I have improved
every year. So at 35 I think the best years are still ahead of me and
hopefully I can win a major.”
