| All-Star team is announced The
big three of Tyrone, Armagh and Kerry dominated this year’s Football All-Stars
being the only three teams represented.
Peter Canavan was awarded his fifth All-Star — somewhat surprisingly
given that his championship year was confined to two games. But his last-minute
point in the All-Ireland semi-final was among the highlights of the year.
He is nominated at centre-forward for the first time in his career. Eoin
Mulligan is rewarded for his excellent season with the right half-forward
berth while footballer-of-the-year Stephen O’Neill was the obvious choice
at full-forward with Colm Cooper and Steven McDonnell in the corners.
In all there are only five players from last year’s selection nominated
again — four from Kerry and Armagh’s Sean Kavanagh in attack.
