London count cost of Kennedy
The
London Football team’s preparations for the National Football League
have been thrown into turmoil after it emerged that the recently-appointed
team trainer has had his renumeration package rejected by the County finance
committee.
A recent meeting of the committee decided that the package of expenses
sought by Dubliner Martin Kennedy to train the football team in the coming
season was too excessive.
The Irish Post understands that the figure sought is far in excess of
any sum paid to a coach by the County Board in the history of the association.
Kennedy’s appointment to assist football team manager Noel Dunning
in 2007 was hailed as a coup for the Board. The former Dublin U-21 player
has an impressive pedigree having worked with the Australian Rules Champions
West Coast Eagles last year. Kennedy was also a professional GAA coach
in his native county.
The failure of a County Board meeting to formally ratify Kennedy’s
appointment in recent weeks, despite the coach being introduced to the
players, will bewilder many London supporters.
This delay can now be explained by the need for a delegation of County
Board officials to renegotiate the trainer’s contract. This process
is expected to start very soon but until the issue is resolved the London
footballers’ preparations for the new season continue to be disrupted. |
