Save Our Shannon service Save
Our Shannon flights that’s the call from Irish Post readers over
Aer Lingus’ decision to pull out of the airport.
And this week The Irish Post launches its own campaign to save the popular
route between the South West of Ireland and Britain.
Last year some 360,000 people used the service from Shannon Airport to
London Heathrow.
But Aer Lingus management say that’s not enough and they’re
switching the planes to fly between Belfast and London instead.
But scores of readers have contacted us to protest against the switch.
They want the service retained with some even threatening to boycott
other Aer Lingus routes to show their anger.
The Irish Post is now calling on Aer Lingus to reverse its decision to
axe the Shannon service.
The call has already been backed by business leaders, politicians and
members of the Irish community in Britain.
More than 100 Fianna Fáil politicians in the West of Ireland
have demanded the Aer Lingus decision be reversed.
The group which includes Government Ministers, TDs, senators and city
and county councillors called on Taoiseach Bertie Ahern to take action
to ensure the Shannon-Heathrow service is retained.
Minister for Defence Willie O’Dea said if the problem was not resolved
then the Irish Government should use its vote to overturn the company’s
decision.
Now we want you to join the fight. If you want the Shannon-Heathrow
service to continue sign our on-line petition at www.irishpost.co.uk of
fill in the form on page 5 of this issue.
We will be forwarding the petition and your comments to Aer Lingus management
with one simple message: Save Our Shannon service.
