Britain voted top holiday destination by the Irish Britain
is among the most popular travel destinations for Irish holidaymakers.
Figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show that Irish
travellers made about 1.5million trips abroad in the first three months
of the year.
And Britain and Spain were the most favoured destinations and accounted
for half of all foreign travel.
The Household Travel Survey also reported that middle-aged people were
enjoying the most trips away.
The 50-59 age group saw the largest percentage increase in both international
and domestic trips.
They also accounted for more than one in four of trips abroad and just
under a quarter of all trips at home.
In contrast, those aged 30-39 took fewer trips both at home and abroad
than any other age group.
Irish holidaymakers are also spending more when they travel.
According to the CSO between January and March of this year expenditure
on international trips grew to €1.3billion an increase of 22 per cent
on the same period last year.
The survey revealed that while the number of international trips increased,
the number of foreign business trips fell by five per cent.
But holidays at home are still popular. More than 1.5million trips were
taken within Ireland.
The south west was the most popular region but the largest amount of money
was spent in Dublin. |
