X-Factor’s Tabby calls for Irish support

By John Crowley's

X Factor star Tabby Callaghan has told The Pulse he has the “experience and the guts” to win the ITV show, but has called on the Irish in Britain to help him in his quest.

Tabby, from Sligo, has been installed as the bookies’ favourite to win the reality TV contest, but the 23-year-old is not taking anything for granted just yet.

“One week you are up and the next week you are down,” he says. “I am focusing on each Saturday rather than looking ahead and winning it, but I am competent enough to believe in what I am doing.

“But I am the only Irish artist left and I need all the votes I can get.” In a message to his fans, he added: “I want to say thank you for all the support I have got so far. You don’t know how much it has meant to me.”

Tabby, who has played in rock bands without success for the last 10 years, is now living out his wildest dreams.

He has recorded backing vocals on Ozzy Osbourne’s new album and is receiving 500 emails and letters from fans every week who adore his ‘edgy’ rocky style.

They include X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne, plus The Duchess of York and her two teenage daughters Beatrice and Eugenie.

“Sharon has been such a star and help to me,” Tabby says. “She has managed her husband Ozzy and he was a handful. Anyone else, me included, are just pussycats to her after Ozzy.

“I have had a glass of champagne with Paul McCartney, and just speaking to him has been a humbling experience.

He added: “For so long I have been knocking on doors and not getting anything. Now I just don’t want to be a flash in the pan.”

Despite trying to keep his feet on the ground, Tabby admits he has plans for world domination.

“In five years time, I’d like to be on my third album filling big stadiums,” he says. “Or maybe not… big shows anyway. Success would be fantastic, I just want to be an incredible artist.”
