MTV features camogie stars to promote Gaelic games
Ireland’s
new vibrancy and self-assurance conferred by its Celtic Tiger economy
is giving the country a wow factor that has now seen MTV embrace it.
The iconic music channel was in Ireland recently to film some of Ireland’s
camogie stars in action.
The British channel travelled over to film footage for their Sports Day
programme.
They attended a training session of the Dublin Senior Camogie team where
they filmed the players in action before interviewing Eimear Branningan
and team captain Anne McCluskey.
They also got several of the team to request their favourite songs for
broadcast throughout the weekend.
President of the Camogie Association Liz Howard is delighted with the
exposure.
She said: “Having camogie featured on MTV brings our wonderful game
to a new audience. This dovetails nicely with the ongoing development of
our Gaelic games in Britain.
“My hope is that this will encourage those young people watching
MTV to play camogie.”
The feature was shown on MTV Flux on the weekend of June 29.
The show featured Kerry’s GAA star Kieran Donaghy who took the football
world by storm last season.
MTV Flux launched last September.
The idea of the channel is to give viewers control by allowing them to
send in video clips to the website and the television channel if approved
by the online community and MTV.
The channel also shows music videos.
