New York Ladies to Celebrate

THIS Saturday, November 18, the New York Ladies GAA will hold their 15th annual dinner dance in the West-chester Manor at 140 Saw Mill River Road in Hastings. A great night of fun and dancing is promised.

This year the Ladies will recognize John Conway as the guest of honor for the occasion. Conway has been associated with the Ladies GAA through Anheuser Busch’s sponsorship of the local GAA in the past eight years. He is a Woodlawn resident and an avid sports fan and has contributed much to the local Wood lawn program.

This year the Ladies will present the Colette Horkan Memorial Award. The recipient is Louise Fox, a native of Carrickmore, Co. Tyrone who plays with Mayo Ladies.

Fox has been central to the success of the Ladies’ underage program Gaelic 4 Girls. She has successfully coached New York’s under-14s, under-16s and under-18s to CYC titles.

This year’s player of the year is Mary O’Rourke of Na Fianna one of the most prolific forwards in New York. She hails from Waterford and adds this award to an already prestigious list of honors.

On the night the Association will recognize Sean Faherty and Annie Kearney Cup champions Cavan, and Peter Connaughton Cup champions Ferm-anagh.

The 2006 Ladies All-Stars will be announced on the night. Now in its third year, this award allows the league to recognize the top footballers in New York in 2006.
