| Show Seeks to Unite Irish Family
By Georgina Brennan
An Irish television show is seeking to reunite a family in Ireland for
Christmas. Producers from RTE’s Afternoon Show contacted the Irish Voice
this week asking for people who have not been home to Ireland in many years
to volunteer to be flown to Ireland and filmed meeting their family for
the first time in a long time.
“We would love to have someone on our show reunite with their family
as a surprise for Christmas,” Afternoon Show producer Rebecca Gaynor told
the Irish Voice.
The Afternoon Show is RTE’s flagship, live daytime TV program, which
airs Monday to Friday from 3:20 p.m. to 4:40 p.m. on RTE, Ireland’s national
broadcast station.
“We will have a theme each week leading up to the Christmas period. Our
final week’s theme is called ‘Random Act of Kindness.’ The idea for the
week is that our viewers will contact us with stories of someone they know
who deserves to be treated to a reward for whatever reason,” she said.
“The idea is that we fly someone home to Ireland to be reunited with
their family for Christmas. Obviously, this would work out better as a surprise
reunion and we would have the family in Ireland in studio under false pretences
until the reunion with their loved one would take place live on air,” explained
Gaynor.
“As it is so soon we will be trying to have our family in place by early
next week at the latest. So anyone interested should call as soon as they
can.
“But the whole thing has to be kept a secret to the family in Ireland.
We are looking for people who have been abroad for a long time and would
love to come home to see their family in Ireland for Christmas but for whatever
reason, they don’t think it is feasible.
The show will pay for a return flight. Producers will discuss any other
requirements once the person volunteers.
Anyone interested in being a part of this historic show, can contact
the producers directly on 011 -3531-2084615 or at
