Gleason Named NYC Parade Grand Marshal MANHATTAN lawyer Teddy Gleason, 79, has been named as the grand marshal of the 2004 New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The announcement was made to parade delegates on Tuesday, December 9 at a meeting at the New York Athletic Club.
Gleason practices law at his lower Manhattan firm of Gleason and Matthews on lower Broadway. A veteran of the U.S. military, he is the son of the late Thomas W. “Teddy” Gleason, who was grand marshal of the parade in 1983.
The elder Gleason was the powerful president of the International Longshore-men’s Association for 24 years, beginning in 1963. He is widely credited with modernizing the union and straightening out its financial affairs.
The 2004 St. Patrick’s Parade will be celebrated in the city on Wednesday, March 17.
