They’re Still Fun Lovin’
THE Fun Lovin’ Criminals will celebrate the release of their new record, Welcome to Poppy’s, with a mini-tour of America. You may remember the band for their novelty hit “Scooby Snacks.” It was that fragmented lyric that seemed to stick on the tick of everyone’s tongue a few years ago.
“Yeah, that song paid my mortgage for about ten years,” jokes band leader Huey. “I embrace that song as part of my past, but I want people to know the new stuff that we are doing.”
This New York outfit enjoys immense popularity in Ireland, so they consider the Emerald Isle their second home. They have invested wisely, opening bars and pizza palaces in Dublin just as the market got hot. They will celebrate the opening of their new bar “Carnival” in Dublin later this month.
Their label, DiFontaine Records, plans to release a couple of soundtracks Fun Lovin’ Criminals have recorded later this year. One of them is for Headrush, an Irish “contemporary black caper crime comedy” directed by Shimmy Marcus. The film features Fun Lovin’ Criminals frontman Huey as a drug-dealing transvestite. Headrush is due for European release this month.
In the meantime, you can catch these Fun Lovin’ Criminals when they break into a town near you.
