Classes
THERE are a full slate of classes at the Aisling Irish Center, 990 McLean

THE CUNY Institute for Irish American Studies has begun pre-registration
for face-to-face and online Irish classes for fall 2007. Elementary Irish
I and III will be offered online. Elementary Irish I will also be offered

THE American Irish Historical Society will host a lecture by historian
Michael Wallis on Billy the Kid at Regis High School, 60 East 85th Street
in New York, at 6:30 p.m. Wallis is the author of the new book Billy the
Kid: The Endless Ride. Upon hearing the name Billy the Kid, one might
think of the gun-slinging outlaw of the Wild West. But few people know
that in all likelihood, Billy the Kid, whose Irish mother had immigrated
to America during the Great Hunger, was a Manhattanite from Five Points

Banjo Day
THE Irish Arts Center, 553 West 51st Street in New York, will host an
afternoon of Irish tenor banjo workshops, historical presentations and
performances featuring Pio Ryan, Donie Ryan and Mick Moloney. Catering
to players of beginning and intermediate abilities, workshops will focus
on the development of Irish tenor banjo techniques as well as an introduction
to various regional styles. Event will also feature an audio/visual lecture
presented by Moloney, outlining the history of the banjo in Irish music.
The afternoon will conclude with a performance by the three instructors.
Workshops/presentation takes place from 1-4:40 p.m.; half hour performance
