The huge increase in crimes of violence in Ireland is recent years is
no longer big news here. Urban deprivation, the drugs trade, gang rivalry,
an influx of East European and Nigerian criminals and the envy factor prompted
by the conspicuous spending of the Celtic Tiger cubs, have all contributed
to making Ireland a nastier, more dangerous place to live.
