Flynn Passes
June 28, 2007
One of the great Sligo flute players, Mike Flynn passed away last week out in Arizona where he was living since 2006 as his health declined. Flynn hailed from Tubbercurry in south Sligo and he carried with him the lovely music of that part of the world known for producing great fiddle and flute players first to England and then New York where he met and married Liz McDermott (from Kilrush, Co. Clare).
Their only daughter Dymphna took up the music and Irish dancing (from Cyril McNiff originally). The New York community honored him in 2003 when he was inducted into the Comhaltas Mid-Atlantic Regional Hall of Fame.
His final place of rest is Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, Queens near his Elmhurst home for over 40 years. Con-dolences to his wife Liz, daughter Dymphna, son-in-law Roger DeBonis and family.
