Niall O'Dowd: Notre Dame's Legacy
SOUTH BEND, Indiana - These fall days are ready-made memories for generations of fans of the Fighting Irish. If you haven't been to Notre Dame on a football Saturday try and make it once in your life.

Cormac MacConnell: Letters That Still Haunt

IN the middle of the Halloween season I'm reading a touching article in a Clare journal about the execution by the free state in 1923 of a young Clare so-called irregular called Patrick Hennessy.

John Spain: They Haven't Gone Away
LAST weekend here saw an incident of IRA savagery that makes even a Quentin Tarantino film like Reservoir Dogs or Pulp Fiction look tame. No guns were involved. That's too quick and easy. We're talking total savagery, sustained over maybe 10 minutes or even longer, which is quite a long time if you're being beaten to death.

Joe Giltrap: Was Dr Kelly death suicide or cover-up?
WAS the Ministry of Defence weapons expert Dr David Kelly murdered? The Liberal Democrat MP Norman Baker a man not afraid to speak his mind certainly seems to think so and he has support in this.
