Chicago Transit
CTA carries over 1.5 million passengers a day. Its buses and trains
serve museums, the lakefront, neighborhoods, sporting events and shopping
in Chicago and 38 suburbs. CTA operates five light rail lines in the city,
known collectively as the 'El' . depending on the time of day, you'll be
waiting anything from 5-20 minutes for a train.
BUSES
The CTA area
is well served by buses, and in the city, your never more than 2 blocks
away from a bus stop. Fares are the same as for the El.
Buses for the suburbs are operated by
PACE very 20-30 minutes
approximately.
TRAINS
Metra Commuter Railroad serves the suburban area and with terminals at Union
Station, LaSalle Street Station and North Western Station. Fares depend
on distance travelled.
TAXIS
Cabs are a fairly reasonable way of getting around the downtown area but
beyond that can get expensive.
