For most of us Americans of Irish descent, the stories and images passed on to us were by the majority, not the most destitute ones but the ones they held dear....the sense of community, the longing for a life that was never to be again. The human mind does that....pushes the most evil and awful things away and hangs on to the threads that made life pleasant. You are right....most Americans will never set foot on Irish soil.
